Mayor Lozeau presented her budget to the Board of Aldermen at their April 27, 2010 meeting. This budget proposes a total combined annual budget of $257.8 million.

With a unanimous vote, the Board of Education on Monday night approved restoring the 15 high school teaching positions that were originally cut in next year’s School District budget.

It’s crunch time for a group of residents hoping to convince city officials to pump another $2 million into next year’s school budget.
In a meeting with The Telegraph’s editorial board Wednesday, members of Nashua Schools Back on Top said they plan on spending the days leading up to a vote on next year’s city budget contacting individual aldermen, urging them to do what they can to ensure the proposed cuts to school services next year don’t happen.

Though next year’s budget isn’t yet set in stone, the Board of Education moved forward Monday with formally closing the Phoenix Program.
With little discussion, the board voted unanimously to close the program for “at-risk” students next year. The 70 middle and high school students at the program this year will transition back to their neighborhood schools next year.

From $1.6 million to pay principals next year to a few thousand dollars in a department’s transportation budget, aldermen went line by line Monday night, quizzing school officials on next year’s proposed budget.
Monday was the school department’s turn to go before the aldermanic budget review committee, which is charged with giving a recommendation to the full board for whether to pass the budget as is or make changes.
