NASHUA – After close review and sufficient recounting, the winners of two ward alderman election races kept their victories a second time around.

Ward 5 incumbent Alderman Michael Tabacsko gained a vote in Monday night’s recount, giving him a three-vote win over challenger Michael Gallagher.

And Ward 7 Alderman-elect June Caron gained seven votes, nearly doubling her lead over challenger Michelle Spears and allowing her to take a seat on the board almost immediately.

The recount of Ward 5 results provided nearly the same amount of tension as Election Day.

Six ballots were challenged after the recount, prompting the Board of Aldermen to examine each ballot and to decide each voter’s intent.

Gallagher had the edge in this portion of the review Continue reading “Recount confirms winners of 2 ward alderman elections – NashuaTelegraph.com” »

NASHUA – A new downtown district for metered parking includes a neighborhood where people don’t want to pay money to leave their cars outside their homes.

The east section of Temple Street, between Cottage Street and Temple Place, is scheduled to have meters for 18 existing parking spaces added as part of the city’s changes in parking laws. The meters would affect, according to various estimates, either several dozen or several hundred residents in apartments and homes.

The neighborhood was included in a new district that brought sweeping changes to downtown parking, with many meters costing more money but offering less time, to ostensibly circulate the flow of parked cars. Aldermen approved the parking plan in June, and it went into effect last week.

The city has yet to install the 18 meters along this section Continue reading “Nashua residents don’t want parking meters outside homes – NashuaTelegraph.com” »

Two ward aldermen election races will undergo recounts Monday night [tonight]: the Ward 5 contest between incumbent Michael Tabacsko and Michael Gallagher and the Ward 7 race between June Caron and Michelle Spears.

Tabacsko squeezed out a two-vote victory over Gallagher on Nov. 8. It’s the second straight election in which Gallagher has asked for a recount; he lost to Tabacsko in 2009 by seven votes, instead of eight, after a review of ballot.

Caron beat Spears by 10 votes. Spears also asked for a recount.

Aldermen scheduled the recount, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, at a special meeting last Thursday night. They also accepted all election results at that meeting.

At the recount, election officials will study each ballot and determine the voter’s intent. The candidates can accept or challenge those determinations. All challenged ballots will then face a final decision by aldermen.

I’ll be honest…I was having difficulty locating the videos of the Alderman-at-Large interviews conducted by the Nashua Telegraph Editorial Board.  So, I decided once I found them it might be helpful for others to have all six available for their viewing.

The order of videos below is solely based on the order of interviews conducted by the Nashua Telegraph Editorial Board.
