State Rail Plan Public Meeting

A public meeting to hear comments on draft recommendations for the future of New Hampshire’s rail system is scheduled for March 5th. The meeting is an opportunity to learn more about potential plans for the state rail system and comment on these recommendations.

The public meeting will encourage questions from the public and active discussion on the draft recommendations. The updated Rail Plan will identify rail’s role in the regional transportation network and its effect on New Hampshire’s current and future economy. The updated Rail Plan will include both freight and passenger rail initiatives.

The City of Nashua, Solid Waste Department will be moving and turning soft yard wastes during the next few weeks at the Four Hills Landfill and Nashua Recycling Center. Residents may experience intermittent odors during this time. The Department will make every effort to expedite the process in order to minimize the impact to nearby neighborhoods. The project is expected to be completed by the middle of March. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Best of luck to Tough Techs 151!

The North/South FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Team unveiled its robot last weekend, in preparation for the 2012 FIRST BAE Systems Granite State Regional Tournament. The unveiling took place at an exhibition hosted by Tough Techs 151 at NHS South last Saturday.

Team 151 is competing this weekend, March 2-3, 2012, at the Verizon Wireless Arena, Manchester, in the Regional Tournament. Tough Techs 151 will be refining its robot at the Regional Tournament in anticipation of competing in late April at the worldwide FIRST Robotics Competition Championship in St. Louis. FIRST prides itself in Igniting Young Minds. Nurturing Passions. Practicing Gracious Professionalism. Again, we wish Tough Techs 151 all the best!

The Nashua School District and the Nashua Parent Outreach Group (NPOG) are collaborating to host a workshop on special education: Sensory Processing Workshop “Just Because the Seasons Change, Doesn’t Mean I Can.”

6 to 8 pm Thursday, February 23, 2012 at North Career Center

Parents, school staff, students, and community members are invited. Traci Gilman, occupational therapist, will facilitate the workshop, which is designed to highlight some of the factors that influence everyday performance around the topic of changing seasons. Focus will be on spring; however, concepts will be discussed that relate to the fall season as well.

The Nashua Board of Education and Superintendent Mark Conrad have scheduled a budget committee meeting for Thursday, February 23, 2012.

This meeting is devoted to public comment on the proposed operating budget for the upcoming school year. You are invited to attend.

The meeting will begin at 7 pm in the NHS North auditorium.

The meeting will also be broadcast live on Nashua ETV, the local cable education channel, channel 99; and streaming here from my site.
